Double Course has been years in the making since The NAC and I released our latin music themed record Amor en Ritmo in 2022. As many folks in bluegrass and jazz have done before us, I had been considering the idea of a studio album that featured duets between musicians exploring different instrumentations and styles.

The album began with recording duets with one of my favorite musicians and colleagues, mandolinist Thomas Cassell. Two of those duets are included from that 2023 session including a tribute to the late Argentinian guitar maestro, DGQ guitarist and my friend, Enrique Coria. As the music and compositions continued to develop, I wanted to create a space to feature as much original music as I could and highlight each band member and special guest.

This is the first album we’ve recorded featuring 10 all original New Acoustic Music tunes including ‘Aptos’ by our guitarist Elijah Chen, ‘Buzz’ by special guest guitarist Gal Klein and 7 tunes I also composed. The album features some of my favorite musicians in bluegrass and jazz including Erik Jekabson (trumpet), Trevor Gabriel (mandolin), Nathaniel Grohmann (cello), Ryan Triolo (double bass), Elijah Chen (guitar) and Thomas Cassell (mandolin).

I hope everyone enjoys Double Course as we explore a variety of new styles including milonga, modal jazz, flamenco, SpaceGrass, rumba and more.” – Jason Keiser

“Jason seamlessly weaves global influences into a musical language that remains deeply rooted in the spirit and tradition of Jazz.” – Ardeshir Farah of Strunz & Farah

"I love what the New Acoustic Collective explores on this album! Melding traditions from across the Americas takes some serious study, and tracks like ‘Enrique’s Milonga’ are an eloquent testament to this band’s passion and promise. I look forward to hearing what they come up with for many years to come!” – Joe Troop
